I’m learning (it’s hard sometimes in this world) that there are truely good people in this world! While organizing my saddlebags this week prepping for my trip, I forget to put my bungees back in the bike. So as I’m loading the Harley with groceries at Harris Teeter, I fill my bags and get ready to strap the rest to the back seat… I come to realize I don’t have any way to secure them. I try rearranging them to see if I can squeeze everything into already loaded bags. I can’t. So I put what I can’t fit back into the cart and head back into the store looking for some sort of straps or bungee cords, at the least some rope or twine. I’m pretty decent with my knots. I ask somebody who works there for help, he says “if we have anything like what you’re looking for it’ll be down here”, he leads me down the isle with mops and cleaners. I told him what I’m wanting to do with the straps and when we don’t find what I’m looking for he tells me that he has a bungee in his car that I can borrow. His name is Wayne and is one of the managers there. As I’m loading my bike I tell him about my trip and selflessly promote it by giving him my instagram name which has my boos address on it. I couldn’t have thanked him enough in the moment. So there are kind, helpful people in this world after all…! Thank you Wayne.
I believe I have road worthy bike set up. Meaning… the physical attributes of my bike are set perfectly! I added a backrest (HD), raised handlebars (12″ HD), drink holder (HD), iPhone mount (Ram Mounts). All things to make those long days comfortably enjoyable! I just got the bars and Bluetooth done this week but, this is exactly how I like my bike set up!
Along those lines… after having three different style motorcycles, sport bike, cruiser and tour, the things I won’t/can’t live without are…
- heated grips
- Cruise control
Music does help although, on long trips I find myself turning off the radio/cd/Bluetooth. I am totally in the moment, in my own space, my zen. Those times are hard to explain without being there yourself. It’s totally freeing!
The old saying “I don’t need therapy because I ride a Harley” is perfect! If I could find a way to support myself living off my bike, I would the he happiest person on this planet! And rich, i would never get off the bike! LOL
This morning I showed my nephew, on a map, where my trip will take me throughout the country… as we got to Idaho and Montana, he saw Butte Montana. He asked me if I could bring him something from BUTT montana!! I told him “absolutely yes! I will bring you something from Butt Montana!” LOL I’ll find him some stickers and a magnet with his name on it! Maybe I can find something with Butt instead of Butte… LOL
I’m writing this blog to chronicle my road trips past, present, and future. I’ve found so many beautiful places in this country that I I can’t keep them to muself!
